The Morecambe Bay GP Training Programme came about by the union
of the Lancaster & Barrow courses in September 1999
The philosophy of the course is to build
on the experience and skills of the doctors in the group and to
develop them for use in General Practice. Small group learning
is used whenever possible, using local resources from primary
care when appropriate. We usually achieve a degree of
flexibility that allows a broad range of topics to be covered.
The structure of the course is based on feedback from past
registrars and is designed to ease the passage through
the nMRCGP exam whilst preparing registrars for today's general
practice.
The programme is spread over 3 years. For
the first and second the teaching sessions are held locally at
Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The
third year teaching will be mainly at Westmorland General
Hospital Education Centre.
We hold 4 statutory workshops over the 3
years covering Critical Appraisal, Ethics, Palliative Care and
Ophthalmology/ENT. We are also developing virtual practice
modules (in the 3rd year) to develop skills and knowledge in
General Practice Management.
