Ash Trees Surgery is a long established dispensing practice providing medical care to around 13,500 patients. We have 8 partners and 3 associates. We are a friendly, forward thinking practice with good personal and working relationships and have the support of an excellent Primary Health Care Team. Carnforth is on the edge of the Lake District. Yorkshire Dales and close to the City of Lancaster. We are just off junction 35 of the M6 and are an hour or so from Manchester and Liverpool. We are 20minutes from Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal where the Day Release course is held.

Our main purpose built surgery is situated in Carnforth where the registrar has his own consulting room. We also have branch surgeries in the villages of Bolton-Le-Sands, Halton and Silverdale. We are a semi rural practice with no listed deprivation. The partners operate personal lists as far as possible. We refer our patients to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal. ![]()
We use Bay Call ‘Out of Hours’ Service where the Registrar will have the opportunity to fulfil their ‘out of hours’ training.
We are a fully computerised practice using windows-based I-soft Premiere Synergy. All consultations and visits are recorded on the computer with linked path lab results and hospital letters. We have internet access in every consulting room and are constantly improving our own intranet and internet sites. An aid to consultation decision making is available in the form of software named Prodigy We have a dedicated computer manager and audit assistant. ![]()
The surgery provides a full range of Personal Medical Services to our patients. We have a full time pharmacist, full time nurse practitioner, 5 practice nurses and 2 primary health care support workers. Our nurse practitioner runs our minor illness clinic on a daily basis with the On-Call GP and our practice nurses take on most of the chronic disease management. We have a committee PHCT attached to the surgery who provide excellent care to our patients. The district nurses, physiotherapist, and health visitors work from a clinic adjacent to the surgery and are easily accessible for attachments. ![]()
In addition to the above we have a strong administration team led by our excellent practice manager, Mrs Maureen Riley. You are welcome to contact her to arrange a time to come and look around the practice. We are committed to training within the practice; the whole practice is willing to provide assistance and support and feel we can offer a registrar all round experience of general practice; making them feel a valued member of our team. There are 3 partners currently involved in medical student education. All partners are involved in training to ensure we use all areas of expertise within the practice. We meet weekly for clinical discussions and meet regularly with members of our primary health care team.
