WINDSOR ROAD SURGERY |
Windsor Road SurgeryTrainer: - Dr Philip Deakin Practice: - The Windsor Road Surgery is a six-partner, dispensing practice in Garstang, Lancashire. We are a stable well-established surgery, being the larger of the two practices based in the town. Garstang is an old market town, which has been widely developed over the past 25 years. Despite this increase in size the town still has a strong sense of community and remains a very pleasant place to live and work. The area has a mixed population - a large farming community and a higher than average proportion of elderly people being notable features. Garstang is conveniently situated for access to the M6 motorway and due to this geographical position provides a base for commuters to all the major conurbations of the North West. The Fylde Coast and Lake District are within easy reach and the town is on the edge of The Trough of Bowland. Our practice operates from purpose built premises, which were built in 1984 under the lease back scheme. Currently our list size is 11,200 and increasing slowly. The practice area is large - stretching between the motorway junctions of Galgate in the North to Broughton in the South. Westwards we extend to the village of St. Michael’s and our eastern boundary reaches into the Trough of Bowland. We are one of the 18 practices within the Wyre Primary Care Trust. The Practice is a well-established training practice with over ten
years training experience. It is fully committed to education and also
takes fifth year medical students. In addition regular in-house
educational meetings are held. Dr Deakin is the recognised trainer,
having been trainer since 1993 but all the partners are involved in
teaching. Dr Laing, who works part time within the practice, also has
previous experience as a trainer. As a group we have regular practice and partners meetings, monthly in – house training, quarterly we join the Wyre PCT collective learning sets training programme and we have access to both Lancaster and Preston Postgraduate Centres. We enjoy good relations with our local hospitals – using both Lancaster and Preston for secondary care.
