Queen Square Surgery
Trainers: - Dr John Yarnall (VTS scheme organiser) and Dr Simon Connell (GPR Day Release Course Organiser)
Associates: - Dr H Connell, Dr H Ainsley and Dr F Stuart
Queen Square is a long established group practice with our main surgery conveniently situated a few hundred yards from the centre of the historic city of Lancaster. We also work from a branch surgery in the village of Caton in the picturesque Lune Valley. We are an eight-partner practice, which is now part of Lancaster Primary Care Group. We are an extremely friendly practice with good personal and working relationships, which helps enjoyment and learning. We are also very organised and efficient, we pride ourselves on not only being patient centred but also in providing an excellent standard of care for our patients. We are very committed to training within the practice. We find it very satisfying and rewarding. We are fully computerised using the EMIS system and are linked to our branch surgery. All notes are fully summarised on the computer and all consultations, including visits, are recorded on the computer, hence “note-less surgeries”. We take full advantage of electronic means of communication and are connected to the NHS Net and the Internet. Trainers:John Yarnall and Simon Connell are approved Trainers although all partners are involved in the training process as we like to utilise all areas of expertise. We have been a training practice for over 16 years.
Training Opportunities:Registrars are given the opportunity to see General Practice in its entirety. We encourage them to follow up patients over the periods of their attachment, taking full responsibility for their care, with the support of one of the partners. The practice is geared up well for Minor Surgery and Family Planning and therefore there is ample opportunity for the Registrar to see and enjoy learning in these areas. Registrars are supported throughout their year to achieve the goals of Summative Assessment, are encouraged to sit the MRCGP and are assisted in gaining their practical child health experience. The education timetable is tailored individually to the Registrar’s needs and we encourage self-directed learning. Out of Hours:Registrars complete the set number of out of house sessions recommended by the deanery (as in all Morecambe Bay practices). This is with Bay-Call our new service run by the PCT, who provide a programme of initiation sessions at the beginning of the GPR year.
We hope that we provide an interesting, stimulating & not least a very enjoyable environment to complete your training in General Practice. You are very welcome to contact either John Yarnall or Simon Connell to discuss our practice and training further or to organise a time to look around the practice & meet some of the team. ![]() |
