Asthma Diploma Practice NurseMrs. Kathy Haughton, R.G.N.Dip.Asthma, CHD, COPD Health Care AssistantMrs Ann Ward The Receptionists, Dispensers, Secretary and AdministrationThe practice has a full complement of ancillary staff. We are also a dispensing practice, and our registrar has ample opportunity to spend time with all our staff as part of their year. PremisesWe moved into our current premises last year - a purpose built health centre, constructed under a PFI scheme. Partners have their own consulting room as does the registrar. There is a full suite of nursing rooms plus a treatment/minor operations/emergency room. Upstairs there are full facilities for our clerical staff and also a common room, library and large meeting room. All rooms are computer networked to our EMIS clinical system and we also make full use of NHSNET. All visits, consultations and audits are recorded on the computer. Also located in the Community section of the building is the District Nursing Team for the local area, Health Visitors, Health Visitors Assistant for the elderly. The Community Midwives provide antenatal clinics both at the Lunesdale Surgery and West View Surgery. Other professionals who visit the practice on a regular basis include a Counsellor, Physiotherapist, Dietician, Social Workers and Community Psychiatric Nurse. Referrals to them can be made by members of the Health Team. We also have a branch surgery in the village of Hornby approximately 8 miles from the main surgery. This consists of 1 consulting room, 1 treatment room and a dispensary. The premises are computer linked via landline to the main surgery. The registrar will only occasionally visit the branch surgery. MeetingsWe have weekly partners meetings -which the registrar is always invited to attend plus we meet all other areas of the practice team on a regular basis. We also have frequent in-house educational meetings covering a wide-ranging curriculum. TeachingWe have a long record of undergraduate training and currently have regular 4th or 5th year students from Liverpool medical school. We have been approved as a training practice since moving in to our new premises this was the fulfilment of a long-term ambition - we had previously been unable to train registrars due to our old very cramped premises our current registrar has been in post since 8.04. Out-of-HoursIn common with virtually all practices in the bay area we have opted out of OOH. Most of the partners, including the trainer, do regular sessions for BAYCALL, and the registrar has ample opportunity to gain OOH experience with the trainer or a partner. Location and Practice ProfileKirkby Lonsdale is a beautiful market town on the edge of The Lakes and the Dales yet only 10 minutes from the M6 weve got the best of all worlds! Our list size is just over 6000 patients between 3.5 whole time equivalent partners. Workload is not excessive. We allow protected time for teaching as well as for study, project work, audit and relevant educational attachments. There is ample opportunity to gain experience in minor surgery. The whole practice is committed to providing assistance and support throughout their year making them a valued member of the team within the practice. Our aim is to provide an interesting, stimulating and not least enjoyable insight to Rural General Practice to complete your training. Your are welcome to contact Dr Simon Kaye or our Practice Manager, Mrs Julie Badley to discuss things further or to arrange a convenient time to come and look around the practice and meet some of the team. ![]() ![]()
